Tarpley was born on October 2nd, 1718 in ,Richmond Co, VA.1 Tarpley's father was Marmaduke Beckwith and his mother was Elizabeth Brockenbrough. His paternal grandparents were Roger Beckwith and Elizabeth Jenings; his maternal grandparents were William Brockenbrough and Mary Tarpley. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Jonathan, Marmaduke, Roger, Elizabeth, Margaret Elizabeth, Mary and Rebecca. He died at the age of 10 on November 7th, 1728 in ,Richmond Co, VA.
