Lavinia was born in 1867 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Lavinia's father was James M. Yankey and her mother was Minerva. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Gale K., John W., Houston, Frederick C., Margaret and Alice. She was the oldest of the seven children.
