Ester's father was Henry Wax and her mother was Margaret Geschwind. Her paternal grandfather was Johann Philip Wax. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named Peter, Jacob, Henry, John, Philip, Catherine, Elizabeth, Susannah, Christina, Hannah, Madaline, Margaret and Maria.
