Eliza was born in 1863 in ,,Virginia.¹ Eliza's father was Thomas Underwood and her mother was Martha. Her paternal grandparents were Reuben Underwood and Sarah. She had two brothers and two sisters, named James S., John, Martha and Nancy. She was the second oldest of the five children.
