Arthur was born in September 1893 in Illinois.1 Arthur's father was James Meredith Tipsword and his mother was Catherine Younger. His paternal grandparents were Griffin Tipsword and Elizabeth Banning; his maternal grandparents were John Frederick Younger and Bridget Griffith. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Charles, George A., Joseph F., James, Samuel, Living, Living, Merida, Living and Living.-
