Augustus was born on July 20th, 1836 in ,Bourbon, Kentucky.1 Augustus' father was Benjamin Thomas Shropshire and his mother was Elizabeth Jane Smith. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin N. Shropshire and Nancy M. Parrish; his maternal grandparents were George A. Smith and Elizabeth M. Edwards. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Benjamin F., George Smith, Thomas J., Mary and Gabriella S.. He was the oldest of the six children.-
