Martha was born in 1848 in ,Macon, Tennessee.1 Martha's father was Joseph L. Shehorn and her mother was Elizabeth Haines. Her paternal grandparents were George Daniel Shehorn and Rebecca Robinson; her maternal grandfather was Austin Haines. She had two brothers named Thomas and Isaac N.. She was the second oldest of the three children.-
