Joan was born about 1532 in Of, Frittenden, Kent, England.1 Joan's father was Richard Sheafe and her mother was Elizabeth Andrew. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Sheafe and Alice Hendley; her maternal grandparents were Giles Andrew and Agnes. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, William, Katherine, Margaret, Margery, Alice, Mary and Anne. She was the oldest of the nine children.-
