Mary was born in 1715 in ,Westmoreland, Virginia.1 Mary's father was Jacob Remy and her mother was Ann Sanford. Her maternal grandparents were Robert Sanford and Ann. She had six brothers named John, Sanford, Benjamin, Jacob, William and Joseph. She was the youngest of the seven children.
