Richard was born in 1849 in ,Bourbon, Kentucky.1 Richard's father was Samuel Pryor and his mother was Caroline H. Bedford. His paternal grandparents were Pryor and Sarah; his maternal grandparents were Littleberry Bedford and Cicely Rollins. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Roger, Jack, Sarah Fannie, Elizabeth E., Cicely and Carrie B.. He was the oldest of the eight children.-
