Rowena was born in 1847 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Rowena's father was John H. Pearson and her mother was Minerva Greene. Her paternal grandparents were Lawrence Pearson and Elizabeth Devault; her maternal grandparents were William Greene and Ruth Slaton. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William Eldridge, George Anderson, Nicholas, James M., Elizabeth Jane, Liza Ruth and Mary Catherine. She was the third oldest of the eight children.-
