Catherine was born in 1829 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Catherine's father was Lawrence Pearson and her mother was Elizabeth Devault. Her paternal grandparents were Christian Pearson and Catherine; her maternal grandparents were Abraham Devault and Katherine Gross. She had four brothers and three sisters, named John H., George, Pryor Lee, Lewis, Eliza Jane, Adeline and Emeline. She was the third oldest of the eight children.-
