Her paternal grandparents were Pleasant Murrell and Susan Trent; her maternal grandparents were Banks Lawson and Thersey Parvin. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named William L., Simpson Franklin, Alice, Mary Or Mollie, Martha Jane, Lillie Lee, Eliza Jane, Amanda Jane and Marena. She was the third oldest of the ten children.-
