Robert was born in 1795 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Robert's father was Michael Looney and his mother was Temperance Cross. His paternal grandparents were Absalom Looney and Margaret Or Peggy; his maternal grandfather was Brittain Cross. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named John, Peter, William M., Absalom David, Benjamin, Michael, Coleman, Andrew, Margaret, Ann, Mary Ann and Rachel. He was the third youngest of the thirteen children.-
