John Shannon was born on October 27th, 1835 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 John Shannon's father was John Looney and his mother was Elizabeth. His paternal grandparents were John Looney and Mary Garrison. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Absalom, Michael Jackson, Joseph Payne, Orville Bradley, Jane, Rachel, Ann and Matilda E.. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named James, Joseph P., John, Orville and Matilda.-
