His paternal grandparents were Benjamin Looney and Mary Johnson; his maternal grandparents were Arthur Galbraith and Mary Sharp. He had five brothers and a sister, named David Riley, Arthur Galbraith, John, Moses, Anthony and Mary. He was the third oldest of the seven children.-
