Mary Jane was born about 1842 in ,,Arkansas.1 Mary Jane's father was John J. Jackson and her mother was Emily Paine\Payne. Her paternal grandparents were William P. Jackson and Jinny Sally. She had seven sisters named Sarah Catherine (Cat), Lydia Elizabeth, Emily F., Martha Ellen "Mat", Cynthia Ann, Nancy Adaline (Nannie) and Amanda Caroline (Cally). She was the oldest of the eight children.
