His paternal grandparents were Thomas Hutchcraft and Nellie Harrison Apperson. He had five brothers and four sisters, named John H., Thomas A., Silas, William Luther, Reuben Brent, Lucinda, Mary Liza, Eleanor Or Ella Apperson and Nancy Coff. He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.-
