His paternal grandparents were John Simon Harr and Lydia Hicks; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Droke and Catherine Foust. He had eleven brothers and a sister, named Jacob Droke, William Droke, James Leonidas, Benjamin Martin, Henry Lafayette, Arthur Jackson, John Isaac, Francis Marion, George Washington, David Wolford, Thomas Jefferson and Lydia Catherine. He was the second oldest of the thirteen children.-
