His paternal grandparents were Arthur Galbraith and Mary Sharp; his maternal grandparents were Benoni Caldwell and Elizabeth. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Andrew Jackson, Elizabeth, Mary, Louisa and Julia Ann. He was the third youngest of the seven children.-
