Dewitt Clinton was born on January 5th, 1829 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Dewitt Clinton's father was Andrew Larkins Galbraith and his mother was Orlena McCraw. His paternal grandparents were John Galbraith and Martha Larkins; his maternal grandparents were Gabriel McCraw and Susannah Latham. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named John Gabriel, Stephen Decatur, Commodore Pinkney, Thomas Arthur, Fidella Sharp, Frederick Dewolfe, Volney Dallas, Martha Ellen and Susan Adeline. He was the oldest of the ten children.-
