James was born in 1394 in of, Herstmonceaux, Sussex, England.1 James' father was William FIENNES (FYNES) and his mother was Elizabeth BATTISFORD. His paternal grandparents were William Fiennes and Joan De SAY; his maternal grandparents were William BATTISFORD and Margaret PEPLESHAM. He had a brother named Roger. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 56 on July 4th, 1450. He was buried in Allhallows, Frey Friars, London, England.1 1 General Notes
