Susannah was born in 1857 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Susannah's father was Thomas Dykes and her mother was Catherine. Her paternal grandparents were John Netherland Dykes and Susannah Robertson. She had five brothers and a sister, named Henry, Isham, John, James, Albert and Martha. She was the third youngest of the seven children.-
