Anna C. was born in July 1846 in Moccasin Twsp., Effingham, Illinois.¹ Anna C.'s father was Joseph Picket Doty and her mother was Catharine Ann Parr. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Doty and Rosanna Sowards; her maternal grandfather was John Parr. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Moses, David, Joseph Picket, Agness, Sarah, Mary Ellen, Nancy Jane and Editha J.. She was the third youngest of the nine children. She had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named Jasper Newton, Sarah D., Capitola, Margaret, Ida Isora and Minnie A..
