Newton J. Davenport 
Newton J. was born about 1844 in Casey Co., Kentucky.1 Newton J.'s father was Henry Davenport and his mother was Elizabeth Spears. His paternal grandparents were \\ Davenport and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were William Spears and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and three sisters, named William T., Jonathan, Martha J., Polly Ann and Lucinda. He was the second youngest of the six children.1 General Notes

Drew Hollis, on our trip to the Clayton Library in Houston Dec 20, 1995,
by himself found the marriage record for Newton and Matilda in a Casey
County Kentucky Marriages book. We were also able to confirm her name as
Matilda instead of just "Tildie" which is a nickname. We made a copy of
this page.
On 2/21/96 I found Newton J. Davenport's family in the 1880 Casey County
Kentucky Census. Page No.26 Dist #3 Eunumeration Dist: 20. Line #1. The
census is dated June 12th, 1880. The census year began June 1, 1879 and
ends May 31, 1880. I made a copy of this page.
