Fred Patton was born in 1903 in Of, Scott, Virginia.1   Fred Patton's father was Samuel Chester Cox and his mother was Pearl Patton Winegar.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Cox and Susannah Carr; his maternal grandparents were James O'brien Winegar and Amanda Tennessee Haynes. He had three brothers and a sister, named Lindsay O'brien, Maurice Jackson, Clinton Seaver and Edna Pearl.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 84 in 1987.1
