Jean De was born about 1172 in of, Courtenay, Galinois, France.1   Jean De's father was Pierre Prince of France and his mother was Isabelle (Elizabeth) De Courtenay. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Pierre II De, Robert De, Philippe De, Guillaume De, Daughter De, Alix De, Eustachia De, Clementia De, Daughter and Constance De.  He was the third youngest of the eleven children.  He died after 1221.1
