About 1803 John W. moved south from Charleston. An 1820 census reports he was living in Dallas County, Alabama, married to Jane with a son, a daughter, and seven slaves. His son was John H. and the daughter was Elizabeth H. who later married Thomas Taylor.
Probate records from 1843 through 1845 indicate that John W. died in 1843 leaving an estate of 486 acres, a house, a gin, slaves, and $2167.90.
