John J. was born in 1849 in Tennessee.1 John J.'s father was John Cato and his mother was Parthenia Jane. His paternal grandparents were Roland Cato and Nancy Vincent. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Tennessee, William, Amanda Jane, Martha, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Nancy and Pessa. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.-
