Nora was born in 1863 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Nora's father was William Lafayette Carver and her mother was Sarah Jane Robertson. Her paternal grandparents were William Carver and Margaret Price; her maternal grandparents were William Robertson and Mary Davis. She had a brother and four sisters, named James T., Margaret Frances, Prudence, Kate A. and Nancy Jane. She was the youngest of the six children.-
