I found John Bowmer's family in the 1850 Russell County Kentucky Census
listed as follows:
Bowmer, John 31 M Farmer $75.00
Margaret 34 F
Wm. F. 10 M
Shelby S. 7 M
Sarah F. 5 F
John A.C. 3 M
Mary M. 1 F
They are listed directly on the same census page after Jane Combest, the
widow of John Combest.
The Bowmers and Combests were neighbors and it appears that the two families land boundaries touched each other.
In the year 1862, on August 5, John Bowmer enlisted as a private in Company F., 8th Reigment, Kentucky Cavalry, commanded by Capt. William Hutner. He served one year and was discharged on the 17th of September, 1863 at Lebanon, Kentucky, disabled by chronic diarrhea, piles, and rheumatism contracted at Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
After Margaret's death in 1875, John married Mary A. Luttrell.
The 1880 Casey County Census, page 21 lists at Knobs of Goose and Dry Fork, District 2 in June 1880 the following:
John Bowmer,Sr. age 60
Mary A. Bowmer, wife age 40
Nancy E. Bowmer, dau. age 3
