His paternal grandparents were Charles Henry Blankenship and Elizabeth Gough; his maternal grandparents were Melchiah K. Baldridge and Susannah N. Stewart. He had three brothers and a sister, named Wm., James, George and Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the five children.-
