Susan C. was born about 1807 in Blount County, Tennessee.1 Susan C.'s father was John Birdwell and her mother was Mary Allen. Her paternal grandparents were George Birdwell and Mary. She had three brothers and seven sisters, named Moses, Allen, John, Nancy, Elizabeth, Sarah H., Jane, Lucinda, Ann and Tabitha. She was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
