Mary was born in 1868 in ,Bourbon, Kentucky.1 Mary's father was John C. Bedford and her mother was Louisa Huffstetter. Her paternal grandparents were Archibald M. Bedford and Elizabeth Hawes Bedford; her maternal grandparents were James Huffstetter and Elvira Sparks. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Frank, James, Margaret, Mattie and Elvira. She was the second oldest of the six children.-
