Silas was born in May 1886 in Johnson Twp., Washington, Missouri.1 Silas' father was John H. Baker and his mother was Mary Ellen Gough. His paternal grandparents were David Nathan Baker and Catherine CAPELER; his maternal grandparents were Charles L. Gough and Martha YARBROUGH. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Charles D., Albert W., Robert B., Henry S., William L., John T., Rosa B., L E. and Martha C.. He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.-
