Elizabeth was born in 1825 in Sullivan, Tennessee.1   Elizabeth's father was Frederick Douglas Akard and her mother was Margaret Elizabeth Click.  Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Aeckard and Susanna Margaretha Latture. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Adam, Lewis, Jacob, Frederick Douglas, David, Catherine, Mary, Sarah and Jane.
