Theodosius was a great promoter of Christianity and a suppressor of paganism. He is responsible for establishing the Nicene Creed formulated at the Council of Nicaea (325) as a central part of Christian orthodoxy. As a young man, he served on his father's staff and fought in military campaigns against the Picts and Scots in Britain from 368-373. In later years, he became a formidable general in his own right.
