Alfred "The Great"  was born in 0848 in Wantage, England.  Alfred "The Great" 's father was Ethelwulf (Aethelwulf) King of Wessex and his mother was Osburgh Queen of Wessex.  His paternal grandparents were Egbert III King of Wessex and Redburg Queen of Wessex; his maternal grandfather was  Oslac  Chief Butler Wessex .  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 51 in 0899.
