Eysteinn I was born in 0725 in Raumariki, Vestfold, Norway. Eysteinn I's father was Haldan "White Leg" Olafsson and his mother was Asa Eysteinsdottir. His paternal grandparents were Olaf "Tree-Hewer" Ingjaldsson and Solveig Halfdansdottir; his maternal grandparents were Eysteinn "Haardaade" Throndsson King of Upplanders and Solveig Halfdansdottir. He was an only child.
