Giles Hales 
Giles was born about March 1833 in Carthage, Moore County, NC . Giles' father was William Hales and his mother was Abigail Jones. His paternal grandparents were John Hales and Francis UNKNOWN; his maternal grandparents were Levi Jones and Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Harvill . He had six brothers and a sister, named Simon, Ollin, Beaman Bunyan, Irvin, Daniel, Thomas Jefferson and Lucy Ann. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He died after 1920 in Massey Hill, Fayetteville, NC.General Notes
Moved to Cumberland County after 1900. Buried Holt-Morgan Cem. Massey Hill. Enlisted in War on 3/11/1862
Civil War Enlisted: 3/11/1862 NC North Carolina Company H, 46th Infantry Regiment Unit 153. Confederacy. Moore County, NC. Distinguished Service Honor. Enlisted as a private on 11 March 1862 at age 28. Deserted on 9 September, 1862 at Buckystown, MD. Arrested on 6 November 1862. Returned on 30 January 1863.
