His paternal grandparents were Thomas Wilbraham and Margaret Swetenham; his maternal grandparents were Phillip Egerton and Margery Mainwaring. He had a brother and four sisters, named Richard, Ellen, Margaret, Elizabeth and Margery. He was the second youngest of the six children.-
