Dermot, expelled by his enemies, sought aid in England, arriving in Bristol in Aug 1166 with his beautiful daughter Eva. With Henry II's permission, he raised an army but died shortly after his Anglo-Norman army had reconquered his territory. This began the subjection of Ireland to England through foreign armies. Even the church capitulated and accepted the English/Roman changes in their forms of worship
