His paternal grandfather was Apius Claudius NERO; his maternal grandparents were Marcus Livius Drusus CLAUDIANUS and Alfidia * UNKNOWN. He was an only child. Livia had two sons, Tiberius and Drusus, from a previous marriage to Tiberius Claudius Nero. Tiberius and later Drusus's son Claudius became emperors of the Claudian line.
