  MARRIED:  1655 in Isle of Wight, VA
  NOTE: Peter Garland was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts Bay. Son of 'Peter
  Garland, mariner,' married about 1650, Joan ? Residence, Boston. He lived in
  Boston 1654 and was a member of the Dover, NH Combination established Oct.
  20, 1640. Peter Garland owned a house and a lot in Hampton, NH in 1666. He
  was married to Joan in 1654 in Boston, MA and they had the following
  children: Mary Garland, b. 1654 in Boston, MA and Jabez Garland
  NOTE:
  A very complete account of this family will be found in The Cumberland Parish, by LC Bell (1930). Reference is made particularly to the Garlands of Southside, Virginia. (A History of Louisa County, Va) Peter Garland is said to have been the emigrant of this family, from Wales in 1650, who was of the Sussex England branch of the Garland family.   Peter Garland, immigrant, came to Virginia about 1650. He had at least one son,
  Edward, who lived in Hanover County, Va (A History of Louisa County, Va, by
  Malcolm H. Harris, MD, West Point, Va cpyrgt 1936) Mr Harris also states that a
  very complete account of this family will be found in The Cumberland Parish by
  LC Bell (1930). Reference is made particularly to the Garlands of Southside
  Virginia.
