  Note: The Burwell family descended from the Burwells of Suffolk. The first named, Thomas, came from Sutton, and later Burwells came from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire, just north of London. John Burwell I came to the New World about 1630 with his family. TheBurwells settled in the Milford, CT area. They became leaders in that colony. Joshua Lobdell met and married Mary Burwell in Milford. CT. She was the daughter of Samuel and Sara Fenn. granddaughter of John Burwell and Alice Heath, gr grand daughter ofThomas Burwell and Miss Prentice. Thomas Burwell was born inSutton, England on 29 Apr 1568. He married a Miss Prentice orPrentys in that area and come to the new world in the early1500s with his wife and at least one son, John Burwell. ThomasBurwell of Hemel Hempstead, Hartforshire, England married a MissPrentys or Prentice. It is assumed the Prentice family came fromHemel Hampstead. However, Thomas was born in Sutton, and she mayhave been from that hamlet, There are several Hamlet's ofSutton. The one which the family may have come from wouldpossibly be in Cambridgeshire, north of Cambridge.
