His paternal grandparents were Solomon Spears and Margaret Kerfoot; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Moran and Sophia Edwards. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Solomon, Jacob, Noah, Margaret, Sophia, Emily and Kate Or Katherine K.. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.-
