Martha Jane was born on November 2nd, 1862 in , Wayne, Illinois. Martha Jane's father was Andrew Jackson Shehorn and her mother was Amanda M. Marshall. Her paternal grandparents were George Daniel Shehorn and Emily Harrison James; her maternal grandfather was John Marshall. She had a sister named Amanda Melvina. She was the older of the two children. She died at the age of 55 in 1917.-
