Benjamin Arthur was born on January 5th, 1889 in , Wayne, Illinois. Benjamin Arthur's father was Benjamin Franklin Shehorn and his mother was Angeline Leister. His paternal grandparents were George Daniel Shehorn and Emily Harrison James; his maternal grandparents were John Leister and Anna J. Rush. He had six brothers and eight sisters, named Andrew Jackson, George W., Thomas Jefferson, Charles F., Francis M., James R., Emily Jane, Marinda A., Mary Ann, Elizabeth Frances, Amanda Matilda, Lillie, Millie and Melinda Agnes. He was the youngest of the fifteen children.-
