David was born about 1805 in , , Virginia.  David's father was William Rowan and his mother was Elizabeth Ellison.  His paternal grandfather was Francis Rowan. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Francis, Samuel M., Mary Or Polly, Elizabeth and Ann.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died on October 28th, 1846 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.
