Meredith's father was Benjamin Ricks and his mother was Patience Helty. His paternal grandparents were Isaac Ricks and Sarah McKinnie. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named William, Abraham, Benjamin, Jacob, John, Josiah, Lewis, Thomas, Mary, Patience and Sarah.
